Raymond’s gallery and studio on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, NM lies at the epicenter of fine art in the Western Hemisphere. While New York and Paris have more art galleries, neither city has the concentration that occurs on Canyon Road. It is there that Raymond paints his masterworks, while visiting with all who drop by.
Raymond’s mentors began with great Native American, Oklahoma painter Johnny Tiger, older brother to the equally renown painter Jerome. Johnny’s encouragement to develop his talent helped convince Raymond that his life’s path must include being an artist. Raymond attended the famous art school in Santa Fe, IAIA, and then worked under and was mentored by master Santa Fe artist Frank Howell.
Despite this very rich background and support, Raymond still travelled to Europe for 2 years while in his 20’s to learn concepts of the European art traditions. The influence of their styles, from the Impressionists to the Fauvists, can be seen in his works.
Raymond’s paintings are collected worldwide, including well-known celebrities and political leaders. Perhaps, he is best known for his vibrant colored oil paintings of mounted riders of the Plains Horse Culture galloping through water. The turning point of Raymond’s career occurred when a painting of his was selected as the artwork for the 2000 Santa Fe Indian Market poster.
