Map Origin:  Philippe Vandermaelen, Brussels

This map is one of the very first to show Vancouver Island and the Puget Sound, which was not known about by the Western World until its “discovery” by George Vancouver in 1792. A number of tribes are shown throughout the map. This part is part of Vandermaelen’s seminal and monolithic mapping of the Earth, to scale, the first time such a cartographic undertaking had been accomplished.
